The junior high students will be focusing on expanding their growth mindsets this year within the technology education class. A growth mindset focuses on creating well rounded students who can approach a problem using skills and tools covered within class. A growth mindset can be demonstrated in a variety of ways such as: embracing challenges, learning from feedback and criticism, learning through trial and error, persistence, a growing curiosity, and a commitment to hard work and increased effort. Within the technology education class students will have the opportunity to practice these skills in a variety of project based learning activities. Collaboration will be a key skill that students will use throughout the course. Parents and guardians are encouraged to be involved in their student's learning.

Report Card Language There are three terms in junior high school, students will receive three report cards throughout the year. The report card will show a percentage mark for any units taught during the given term. The following will be used to summarize the outcomes: 90-100% - excellent or outstanding understanding of the concepts. 80-89% - very good understanding of the concepts. 70-79% - good performance understanding of the concepts. 60-69% - satisfactory understanding of the concepts. 50-59% - minimally acceptable understanding of the concepts. Below 50% - not met minimum requirements to show understanding of the concepts. How can students succeed in this class?
Be prepared, on time and on task
Respect classmates, classroom, teacher and yourself
Keep all personal electronics put away (unless instructed by a teacher to use them)
Be excited about learning and working toward a goal
Assessments Students will engage in both assessments of learning and for learning. Assessment for learning helps teachers and students know where they are and where they need to go in order to meet the expectations. Assessment of learning happens at the end of particular section of study and demonstrates how thoroughly a concept is understood. As such, students are provided will multiple opportunities to show their learning through activities. Students’ achievement of the outcomes will be assessed using a 1-4 point rubric. This information will be used to calculate a percentage grade for each strand at the end of each term.
Students and their parents are strongly encouraged to keep track of their progress by using the Parent Portal of PowerSchool which is accessible on the Parent tab of the OPA website and by adding themselves to the Google Classrooms created by each teacher.
